If you want to automate lead tracking with Zapier, one Zap replaces the entire copy-paste routine. Every Google Forms response lands in Google Sheets and pings Slack automatically, with no code at all.

What you need

  • A Google Form with Name, Email, Company, and Message fields
  • A Google Sheet with matching columns plus a Date column
  • A Slack channel for leads — call it #leads
  • A free Zapier account

How the Zap works

Trigger: Google Forms New Response in Form. Action 1: Google Sheets Create Spreadsheet Row. Action 2: Slack Send Channel Message. One submission, three places updated.

Step 1: Create the trigger

In Zapier, click Create Zap. Search for Google Forms and choose New Response in Form. Connect your Google account, select your lead form, and test it so Zapier can see a sample response — that sample makes the next steps easy.

Step 2: Add a row to Google Sheets

Search for Google Sheets and choose Create Spreadsheet Row. Pick your leads sheet, then map each column to the matching form field:

Sheet column Form field
Name Name
Email Email
Company Company
Message Message
Date Submission date

Select each field from the form data — never type values by hand, so every new lead fills itself in correctly.

Step 3: Post the Slack alert

Search for Slack and choose Send Channel Message. Pick your #leads channel and write a short alert:

New lead: {Name} — {Company} — {Email}

Keep it short. Your team should understand the lead in one glance, without opening the sheet.

Step 4: Test it with a dummy lead

Click Test Zap, then submit a test lead through your own form. Use dummy details only — never a real customer:

{ "name": "Alex Carter", "email": "alex@example.com", "company": "Northwind Studio", "message": "Interested in your automation service." }

Within seconds, check the sheet: a new row should appear, perfectly filled in. Then check Slack: your alert should be waiting in #leads. If a field is blank, go back and check your mapping — that fixes almost every error.

Step 5: Publish the Zap

Publish your Zap and turn it on. From now on, every form submission is logged and announced automatically. Your sheet becomes your single source of truth for leads, and your team hears about each one the moment it arrives.

Reuse this pattern anywhere

Job applications, support requests, event sign-ups, client onboarding — just change the form and the sheet.
