Cursor and Tabnine used to be a genuine two-way comparison: one AI-native editor built for raw productivity, one privacy-first assistant built for regulated enterprises that can't send code to the cloud. That comparison still has useful content in it, but the shape of the decision changed underneath it this year, and most writeups haven't caught up.
What actually changed:
- Tabnine was acquired by Tricentis (deal closed 30 July 2026). tabnine.com now redirects to tricentis.com — there's no public pricing page and no self-serve signup left. Existing customers keep support; a developer evaluating tools today simply cannot buy it. The last published prices, for reference: Code Assistant $39/user/mo, Agentic $59/user/mo.
- Cursor repriced in October 2026 after SpaceX's acquisition of Anysphere. The old $20 Pro tier is gone. Plans are now Free, Plus ($8/mo, Grok models only, shared pool), Premium ($30/mo — the first tier with cloud agents and Bugbot, third-party models billed separately at API price), Super ($100), Ultra ($200), and Teams (from $30/user/mo).
What that leaves on the table:
Tabnine's actual technical case — genuine on-premise and air-gapped deployment, SOC 2 compliance, support for virtually every editor including JetBrains and Neovim — is still real for anyone already on it. It was never going to lose to Cursor on autocomplete depth or Composer-style multi-file editing; it wasn't trying to. But "which one should I adopt" and "which one still exists to adopt" are now two different questions, and only Cursor answers both.
We checked both vendors' pricing pages directly rather than relying on older reviews that still quote Cursor's $20 tier or treat Tabnine as a live self-serve option. We have no affiliate or commission relationship with either Cursor or Tabnine — checked 2026-10-18 (Cursor) and 2026-10-18 (Tabnine), no publisher programme exists for either to disclose.
