GIMP 3.2.8 is released as a maintenance update to the 3.2 series, introducing text editing improvements with enhanced right-to-left language support, faster dialog performance, and multiple bug and security fixes across platforms.

Text and menu improvements

The update brings better support for languages written from right to left. Arrow navigation in these texts has been fixed and new direction icons have been added directly to the work screen. If the user does not select a direction, the program calculates it automatically.

The settings window opens faster, and issues with window positioning and system colors have been fixed. A filter is now working properly and is no longer incorrectly disabled, and users can now cancel font loading if they close the program before the process is complete.

What's changing on Mac and Windows

On Macs, windows are managed differently to stop repeated permission prompts. On Windows, the program now more accurately estimates memory usage, and printing improvements have been made to fix issues with page setup and system windows.

Plugin and security fixes

The new version fixes several security issues related to GIMP plugins and improves the way the program handles errors. There are also fixes to the border-adding feature, importing specific image file types, and the screenshot tool.
