Grok Bot users experienced unexpected usage caps over the weekend as limits suddenly maxed out.
Elon Musk confirmed the behavior was intentional rather than a glitch, pointing to high operational costs relative to revenue, though long-term subscriber limit adjustments remain unannounced.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk confirmed in a post on Sunday that the problem was not due to a technical error. Responding to a comment, he explained that the cost of running Grok Bot is too high compared to the revenue it brings, without specifying how subscriber limits will be affected in the future.
According to a SpaceX filing last month, artificial intelligence now accounts for 52% of the company’s revenue. The division, renamed “Super Intelligence,” reported a profit of $431 million. That profit would have been higher if it weren’t for $1,2 billion in one-time charges related to the Cursor acquisition. Elon Musk has called Grok Bot’s development the fastest he’s ever seen.
