SpaceX is reportedly seeking to purchase 418 homes in Colonial Hills, Southaven, adjacent to its Colossus II AI computing facility operated by subsidiary MZX.
Residents currently involved in a lawsuit regarding persistent turbine noise must withdraw from the litigation to receive purchase offers.
This development follows community complaints regarding air quality and turbine permitting, though the company states it has reduced power output and installed barriers to address concerns.
The redemption term and the neighborhood
The homes targeted are near a power plant and the Colossus II computer complex, which is operated by a subsidiary of SpaceX. The company is reportedly asking the owners to drop the lawsuit so that the purchase of their properties can proceed.
Complaints about noise and pollution
Residents involved in the legal dispute complain that the noise from gas turbines is seriously disrupting their sleep and daily lives. There are also complaints about air pollution and turbines operating without the necessary permits.
SpaceX plans to remove the unauthorized turbines within a year, once a new 1,2-gigawatt power station is operational. The company denies the allegations and says it has reduced power and installed sound barriers.
The attitude of the authorities and the company
Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite said the town's measurements have not recorded noise above the legal limit of 70 decibels. However, experts warn that sustained exposure to levels around 50 decibels can also affect health.
