1. The Prompt Leak Vector: Why AI Devs Leak Keys

When debugging complex backend errors, developers naturally copy the entire terminal error traceback and paste it into Cursor or Claude Code.

If your traceback contains:

POST /v1/chat/completions Authorization: Bearer sk-proj-9aB8c7D6e5F4...

That secret is now sent to third-party inference APIs, stored in conversation history, and often suggested back into committed source code.

Why Standard Regex Scanners Fail

Simple regex scanners look for known static prefixes like sk_live_ or AKIA. But modern cloud services increasingly issue high-entropy random hex or base64 keys without predictable prefixes.

Conversely, naive high-entropy matching generates constant false alarms on Git commit hashes, UUIDs, base64 fonts, and minified bundles. When a pre-commit hook throws 20 false positives a day, developers simply run git commit --no-verify and all protection is lost.

2. The Solution: Shannon Entropy Information Density

To eliminate false alarms while guaranteeing leak prevention, we calculate Shannon Information Entropy:

  • Natural English words & source code identifiers: Character distribution is predictable ($H(X) \approx 1.5 - 2.8\text{ bits/char}$).
  • Cryptographic API keys & secrets: Character distribution is uniformly pseudo-random ($H(X) > 3.8 - 4.5\text{ bits/char}$).

By pairing Shannon Entropy analysis with targeted structural heuristics, AgentShield (part of DevSuperSuite) intercepts true secrets before they leave your local machine—with zero false positives.
