Google Gemini can now help business owners change the information customers see on Google Search and Maps. It can update hours, manage links, draft review replies, and retrieve performance data. But a request made through Gemini isn't necessarily a change customers can see.
On October 20, 2026, Google announced a small-business hub in Gemini, bringing Business Profile, Ads, Workspace, and other tools together. Its direct business profile connection debuted in June.
For local businesses, easier editing is useful only when the information remains accurate. A wrong closing time or broken booking link can turn away someone ready to contact you. Here's what to check before relying on Gemini.
What Can Gemini Manage?
According to Google's documentation, eligible owners can use Gemini's web app to update regular and holiday hours; change contact, website, and action links; manage restaurant menus; and work with business attributes. Gemini can also prepare posts and review replies, summarise customer feedback, and retrieve available search and performance information.
Google also introduced Business Notebooks in June. These can suggest improvements based on connected business information, such as completing missing details or reviewing profile performance.
The distinction matters: Gemini can help prepare or submit an edit, but Google still decides whether that edit is accepted and displayed.
Who Can Connect a Business Profile?
Google currently requires users to be at least 18, sign in with a personal Google Account, and own or manage exactly one verified Google Business Profile through that account. The Gemini web app and its Keep Activity setting are required. Work and school accounts aren't supported.
That restriction affects agencies and multi-location businesses: an account managing several verified profiles isn't eligible for this connection. Availability can also depend on account and regional rollout, so confirm access directly in Gemini.
To connect:
- Sign in at gemini.google.com using the account linked to your verified profile.
- Ask: "Show my current Google Business Profile hours and contact details."
- If Gemini doesn't select the integration, try @Google Business Profile and follow the connection prompt.
- Before you make any changes, make sure the information you get back is for the correct business. Privacy check first. Google’s Gemini Privacy Hub says that activity saved with Keep Activity on could be used to improve services including AI models, and some information may undergo human review. Don't paste confidential customer records, payment details, or other sensitive information into prompts.
JuxtLocal's Gemini Edit Risk Matrix
Not every request needs the same level of oversight. Reading a report doesn't alter a listing; changing a telephone number or holiday hours can affect whether customers reach you.
This is JuxtLocal's recommended workflow, not a Google-issued risk classification or findings from a study. "Read-only" describes the requested task, not a separate Google permission setting.
The rule: the more a change affects someone's ability to call, book, or visit, the more carefully it deserves checking.
Say, an HVAC company closes its office at 5 p.m. but is on call for emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. "open 24 hours" may give customers the impression that there is a manned location, which there is not. Confirm what each published field represents before asking Gemini to update it. A safer first prompt is: "Show our current hours, but don't change anything yet." Compare the answer with the office schedule and emergency-service arrangements. Only then decide whether a public field needs updating.
How to Verify a Gemini-Assisted Edit
Google's Business Profile guidance describes three edit statuses: Accepted, Pending, and Not approved. Most edits are reviewed within about 10 minutes, but some may take up to 30 days. A successful request to Gemini doesn't mean Google's public listing has changed.
Use this five-step process for consequential edits:
- Record the current value. Compare it with an authoritative schedule, price list, or contact record.
- Approve the substitution.See exact new hours, URL, price or wording before submission.
- Verify the status of Google. If it is pending, please re-run a check, if it is rejected, please investigate instead of re-submitting again and again.
- See the public listing.Get accepted . Then find the business and try the customer facing result on a phone .
- Record the outcome. Field, old and approved values, reviewer, status, verification date.
Google may also update business information from other sources. Periodic checks matter even when nobody at your business has asked Gemini to make an edit.
Does Connecting Gemini Improve Google Maps Rankings?
There is no known direct ranking benefit for linking to Gemini. Google’s local ranking guidelines state that the top three factors are relevance, distance and popularity. While accurate profile data helps Google understand a business, posting via AI is not a documented shortcut to rankings.
The more immediate benefit is practical: accurate hours, useful information, working links and clear contact options can help customers act after they find you. Measure that experience separately from changes in search visibility.
JuxtLocal's 30-Minute Business Profile Audit
Before automating changes, inspect what customers currently see. This audit is designed for a straightforward single-location business; complex profiles may take longer.
1-10 Minutes - Check Accuracy
main category, hours, phone, website, booking links and relevant attributes must match the official records. Check each item . Correct. Needs Update or Needs Verification. Resolve issues that might block calls, appointments or visits and refine the descriptive details.Assign an owner to each correction and schedule a follow-up check for any edit still waiting for Google’s approval with a clear verification deadline.
Minutes 11–20: Check Customer Trust
Read your five newest reviews for unanswered complaints and repeated questions. Inspect recent photos, then open your website on a phone and test its main contact or booking action. If customers keep asking about emergency service or appointment availability, make those answers easier to find.
Minutes 21–30: Establish a Baseline
In Business Profile Performance, record an entire recent reporting period: website clicks, call-button clicks, direction requests where relevant, views, and search terms. Keep search terms separate from interaction totals.
Google’s Calls metric counts click-throughs to call buttons, not confirmed conversations or bookings. Compare the platform’s numbers to actual inquiries where good records are available. Revisit like for like full periods after making adjustments. Take account of advertising, seasonality and other activity.More clicks alone don't prove Gemini did anything to improve things.
Your audit should produce three outputs: inaccuracies that need correcting, a responsible reviewer for each change, and a baseline for future checks.
