Every WordPress site owner eventually hits the same wall: the site feels slow, and every "speed plugin" either costs money or does one small thing. Cloudflare's free WordPress plugin is the rare exception — it bundles a CDN, caching, and security in one free package. I tested it on a real site and wrote up the full results.
What the plugin actually does
- Serves your static files (images, CSS, JS) from Cloudflare's global CDN, so visitors download them from a server near them instead of your origin server.
- Adds browser caching and minification rules without touching code.
- Includes bot protection and a free SSL layer, which matters more than most beginners think.
Setting it up takes about ten minutes: create a free Cloudflare account, add your site, point your nameservers to Cloudflare, then install the official plugin and connect it with an API token. No code, no server access needed.
Who should use it
If your site runs on shared hosting — which is most small WordPress sites — this is the single highest-impact free change you can make. It will not fix a bloated theme or 5MB images, but it removes the network distance between your server and your visitors, and that alone is often the biggest slice of load time.
The full test, with the setup steps and what to check after installing, is in my detailed review here: https://segaflash.com/2026/10/10/cloudflare-wordpress-plugin-review/
If you run WordPress, try the free tier first. It costs nothing, and you can measure the difference with any speed test before and after.
