BTCPay Server has urged users to update their software following Bitcoin and Litecoin thefts from hot wallets on versions 2.4.1 and earlier.
Operators using older instances are advised to migrate to fresh servers and new wallets due to potential compromise of stored secrets.
The attacks target systems running version 2.4.1 or earlier, which was released in July 2026. According to the data, the attackers used a different method compared to a previous issue that was fixed in August.
Reports of this wave of attacks began to appear around early November 2026. So far, there are no credible reports of financial losses from users who have installed the latest version 2.4.7.
What users should do
Those on versions 2.4.1 or earlier are urged to migrate to a new computer with a new digital wallet, even if they have not detected any theft so far. If funds are lost or unauthorized access is suspected, the entire computer and its stored data should be considered compromised.
