Artix Linux 2026.11 has arrived, featuring Linux kernel 7.2.14 and shifting KDE Plasma to Wayland by default.
This release, the project's last for 2026, also introduces native user service management support for OpenRC and dinit.
Developers and users should note the reduced number of official init and desktop combinations, intended to focus development efforts.
Switching to Wayland for KDE Plasma
The KDE Plasma desktop environment now uses Wayland by default in the Plasma and Community-Qt editions. This support is only for that environment, as the project managers believe that the other available environments are not yet ready for a full transition.
New service management
The update introduces user-defined service management for OpenRC and dinit systems. This feature allows users to launch and control their own tasks within their session. Users of runit and s6 systems can enable this feature through manual configuration with the userspawn tool.
Changes in the availability of publications
To simplify maintenance, the Artix Linux team has reduced the number of official desktop and boot system combinations. Additionally, the release includes Linux kernel 7.2.14. Gaming-focused builds using the Plasma and Xfce desktop environments remain in beta and will be available via weekly downloads.
