Invoice2Excel Pro – A Local, Privacy-Focused PDF Invoice Parser
Hi everyone!
I built Invoice2Excel Pro, an open-source desktop application that automatically reads PDF invoices and exports key financial data into structured Excel (.xlsx) spreadsheets.
💡 Why I Built It
Many small business owners, freelancers, and accounting teams struggle with manually typing data from digital invoices into spreadsheets. Existing tools are often paid, cloud-based, or require third-party AI/API keys. I wanted a 100% local, privacy-first alternative that runs completely on your machine.
⚡ Key Features
100% Local & Privacy-First: Uses pdfplumber for text extraction. No cloud APIs, no data telemetry, no external calls.
Multi-Country Tax ID / VAT Recognition: Handles Greek AFMs, US EINs, and EU/UK VAT numbers with fallback logic.
Flexible Date & Amount Parsing: Supports multi-language date formats (EN, GR, DE, FR, ES) and handles different currency separators (., ,).
Smart Calculations: If Net or VAT amounts are missing, the parser infers them automatically using known formulas.
Sleek Dark Mode GUI: Built with CustomTkinter using a background worker thread so the interface never freezes during processing.
Formatted Excel Output: Generates clean .xlsx files with auto-filters, formatted column types, and status highlighting via openpyxl.
🛠️ Tech Stack
Language: Python 3.9+
GUI: CustomTkinter
PDF Parsing: pdfplumber
Data Export: pandas, openpyxl
⚠️ Current Limitations (Beta Status)
Works best with digital PDFs. Scanned/image-only PDFs require OCR (Tesseract integration is planned on the roadmap).
